Mechanical Design Engineer

Summary

Established leader in manufacturing equipment located in Ann Arbor, MI is searching for a mechanical engineer to create, and improve machine design drawings for high performance balancing equipment. The selected individual will provide leadership by identifying opportunities for design improvement and cost reduction.

Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize, design and analyze parts, components, assemblies, subassemblies and systems
  • Produce associated conceptual drawings
  • Identify opportunities for design improvement, and cost reduction
  • Provide written guidance for improvement ideas, communicate ideas to management and team, follow implementation of change through to completion
  • Carry out technical and manufacturing troubleshooting and establish procedures and corrective actions to avoid recurrences

Key Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent design, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to design, quality machines
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities
  • Ability to multi-task across on 3-5 jobs
  • Ability to develop, read, and analyze blueprints
  • Understanding of manufacturing techniques used to create parts, such as machining, soldering, milling, and drilling
  • Proficiency in Auto Cad Inventor or similar platform

Experience and Education

  • Minimum of Bachelors of Science in mechanical engineering, Masters degree in mechanical engineering preferred
  • Min. 5 years experience as a design engineer Expectations of the Position
  • Ability to create new and improve existing mechanical designs

  • Interest in designing quality machines with low manufacturing and service costs
  • Comfortable working hands-on in a manufacturing environment
  • Team player
